Open first floors, original bathrooms and big kitchens, about twenty minutes south of Wilmington.
Bear is about twenty minutes south of Wilmington off I-95 and Route 1, and most of it was built in the last forty years. The neighborhoods along the Route 40 corridor, around Lums Pond State Park and over toward Glasgow are full of 1980s, 1990s and 2000s homes that came with builder-grade finishes, and that shapes the work.
A lot of Bear jobs start with carpet and sheet vinyl coming out of an open first floor and luxury vinyl plank or hardwood going in as one continuous run, so the plank direction and the transitions into the kitchen and powder room are planned before the first row goes down. The original bathrooms in these houses are usually due as well: fiberglass tub surrounds and small floor tile giving way to a tiled shower, a larger-format floor and a niche that was not there before.
Newer construction still has its quirks. Slabs and subfloors in younger houses are not automatically flat, and a large-format tile or a long plank will show every high spot, so the floor is checked and brought flat first. Kitchens in Bear tend to be bigger and more open than in the older towns, which makes the backsplash the piece everybody sees from the living room, cut around every outlet so the pattern still reads as one piece. Call with the room and the square footage and you get one straight number.
Floor and wall tile, mosaic, marble and pattern work, set to a layout that is planned before anything is stuck down.
02Hardwood, luxury vinyl plank and laminate through living space, laid to run with the room rather than against it.
03The tile and floor side of a bathroom remodel, from tear-out and waterproofing prep to fixtures set back onto finished tile.
04The new kitchen floor and the backsplash, planned around the cabinets and counters so the room reads as one piece.
05Shower walls, floors, pans and niches, with the waterproofing prep done before any tile is set over it.
06Backsplashes and kitchen floors, cut around outlets and cabinet runs so the pattern still reads as one piece.
07Subfloor flattening, old flooring removal and tile repairs, which is where most failed floors actually went wrong.
Tile is not a trade you can rush or hand off halfway. The person who measures your floor is the person who sets it.
Substrate checked flat and sound first, because tile telegraphs every dip and every soft spot beneath it.
Where the full tiles land and where the cuts fall is decided before anything is stuck down.
Set to a line, spaced consistently, then grouted and trimmed so the edges are finished rather than filled.
