In a kitchen remodel the cabinets and counters get the attention, but the floor is what the whole room sits on and the backsplash is what everybody looks at. The order matters. On most remodels the old floor comes up and the subfloor is checked flat before the new cabinets go in, so the new floor runs underneath them rather than being trimmed around them, and the backsplash goes on once the counters are set. The transitions matter too: where a kitchen floor meets a dining room or a hallway, the heights are worked out in advance so nobody catches a toe on a lip. Cabinets, counters, plumbing for a moved sink and electrical for new outlets or lighting are other trades, and in Delaware the plumbing and electrical are licensed work. You are told plainly which parts of your kitchen sit on which side of that line, and the tile and flooring side gets one straight number.
